I have lived in South Derbyshire for 25 years, the last 14 with my wife Jane,
Before taking early retirement in 2003 I worked first as the Manager of Newlands House Cheshire Home, Netherseal and later as the General Manager for Leonard Cheshire Services in the East Midlands, helping to improve residential, domiciliary and day care services for people with physical disabilities.
Now free to dedicate my time and energies towards working with local people, I hope to use my knowledge and skills to improve life in our area.
I am an outgoing person who finds it easy to talk with people from all walks of life. I have a great concern for those people who may be less fortunate than me, particularly those disadvantaged by age or disability. I was the co-founder of the charity DIAL (Disability Information & Advice Line) and become the first National Chairman of this organisation.
I served on the District Council between 2007 and 2011 but did not seek re-election at time because of illness. Now I am feeling well again and I am anxious to return and represent the people of Linton Ward.
I have extensive negotiating skills and proven ability in organisation and management. I also have a wide knowledge of charities and was a board member and vice-chairman or a large Housing Association for 20 years.
My hobbies include crosswords, quizzes and singing in close harmony.
My wife Jane and I chose to make South Derbyshire our home and we are committed to improving the local environment and facilities. I believe that my enthusiasm and life experiences will help me to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to improve the area.
