First elected to the Council in May 1999 and privileged to have been re-elected four times since, I also served on the County Council from 2000 to May 2013, latterly as a Cabinet Member, but stood down to focus all of my energies on the District Council.
A Chartered Management Accountant, I was the Director of the National Knitting Industries' Federation, where I was the 'Voice of the Industry' in Whitehall, Westminster and Brussels for over 20 years.
In addition to my role of Finance and Management Committee Chairman, I'm also Chairman of the Standards Committee and of the Melbourne Area Forum, a Member of the Planning Committee and represent the Authority on the EMA's Independent Consultative Committee and the East Midlands Council's Employers' Board. I am also the Member Champion for Performance and Data Quality.
Other local positions which I'm proud to hold are:
- Derbyshire County Council – Honorary Alderman
- Melbourne Sporting Partnership – President
- Melbourne Town Band – Immediate Past President
- Melbourne Male Voice Choir – a Vice President and
- Melbourne Town Cricket Club – a Vice President
I am totally dedicated to advancing, promoting and protecting the best interests of all in Melbourne, Kings Newton and Stanton-by-Bridge.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time by phone (07715612581), email or letter whenever you feel the need, noting that you would always be welcome to come to the Melbourne County and District Councillors' Advice Surgery, on the left hand side of the Assembly Rooms, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month from 11.00am to noon; a prior appointment is not necessary.
